Collection: Brake Hose Olives and Inserts

The small brass olives and barbed inserts that actually seal a hydraulic brake hose. Unglamorous, inexpensive, and the reason a re-fitted brake either holds pressure or does not.

Single use, every time

When a hydraulic hose is cut to length, a barbed insert is pressed into the end of it and a brass olive is compressed around the outside. Tightening the fitting crushes that olive into a permanent seal.

Because it is permanently deformed, an olive cannot be reused. Take the fitting apart and it needs a new one — reusing it is the most common cause of a slow leak that shows up as a lever going soft a week after the job.

The barbed insert is the same story. They cost very little, and there is no sensible reason to economise here.

Needed whenever a hose kit is fitted or shortened.
