Patching still beats replacing
A punctured tube is not rubbish. A properly applied patch is a permanent repair — it will outlast the tyre it is sitting inside. The trick is preparation rather than the patch itself: find the hole, rough the surface around it, let the cement go tacky before the patch goes on, and give it a minute under thumb pressure.
Carry a kit even if you also carry a spare tube. Two punctures on one ride is uncommon but not rare, particularly in thorn season, and the kit is what gets you home after the spare is gone.
